Long story short, in terms of compatibility/experience: PS2 > PS3 full BC > PCSX2 > PS3 half-BC/non-BC > PS4. There are still a lot of games that perform worse on slim models, though. Overall, I would say fully backwards compatible PS3 models are the second best way to play PS2.
